essence of Christmas.

All of us are waiting for the month of December to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. Every Christmas, we often hear of the word "change". They say that they will change their bad deeds to have a better life. After the said celebration, they will do their bad doings again. But what is really the true essence of Christmas? Is it about being happy because we gave many gifts also? Or is it about the bunch of foods that are in our table? Eating a lot even if there are a lot of people who are not eating because of the calamities that they have experienced and had never been aroused from the hardships that they are experiencing? What is it really about?
Change is a big word. We should change our bad deeds because we really want to, not because it's Christmas. We should change not only for ourselves but also for the betterment of everybody..... Christmas is also about giving gifts without expecting anything in return.
This year, many of us do not celebrate Christmas parties anymore because we thought of sharing it to the victims of the world's strongest typhoon  ever which is typhoon Yolanda. Instead of eating, laughing, having fun and living like a man with no problems; they are sacrificing to be able to make the victims not alone and feel blessed. It's very touching because this shows that when it comes to hard times, we can see the unity, love and the willingness to help, the rise of our fellow Filipinos will soon come into sight.
Whatever we will do this Christmas, we should not forget to pray and give thanks for the blessings we have received and will receive.

our future depends on ourself

When I saw you before, you look so perfect. There is nothing that could be changed, but because of the abuse that you have experienced and experiencing, the perfection that I saw in you before already changed. Who did these to you? Why did you let Why did you let climate change crawl into you?

Climate changed, greatest threat facing our planet today. You’re a warming planet which alters weather patterns, water supplies, seasonal growth for plants and a sustainable way of life for us and your wildlife. Our greatest enemy, climate change, has already started, but it’s not too late to take action. There’s still a time for us all to be a part of the solution.

We can celebrate your time (planet hour) once a year for you ---- and go beyond the hour towards a sustainable future. Although the journey to a sustainable future may seem difficult to imagine, it is far from possible. We can do our part individually and together.

going global through English language

A global economic and political structure needs a common tongue. Everyone has their own reasons on why they want to learn on how to speak in English. English is well on its way to becoming the dominant global language. Is this a good thing?
Instead of learning all of the different languages of the different countries of the world for us to understand and speak with each other, there should be one universal language that we should learn and it is the English language. How can we gain foreign friends if we do not know how to speak in English? Maybe we’ll just say, “What the hell is he/she is talkin’ about?” How can we be able to communicate with our boss if for example we will work in abroad? It would make communication across cultures much easier with the help of this language. Language may be a cornerstone of culture, but the culture itself would not have to disappear if English were used as a second or third language for the pure purpose of communicating globally.

Last Sunday, November 10, 2013 at exactly 4:00 in the morning, Ms. Venezuela was announced as Ms. Universe 2013. Only the representative of the Philippines used the international language. Even the proclaimed winner had a translator. In my own opinion, how can she promote or how can she speak with the people all around the world that needs her help if she does not know how to speak in English? Not everybody knows how to speak in a Venezuelan language. The next time that they will organize that kind of pageant, they should require all contestant to speak in English to be fair. Just like in the question and answer portion which is a big impact to their grades, we can say that while the translator is talking or interpreting the contestant’s answer, the contestant is already thinking for a better phrase or sentence which is unfair for the contestants that are talking in pure English.

equal rights, equal opportunities

On the ancient days, there are discriminations that are happening between men and women. Women are less important before because they believe that they don't have the ability to learn and work to be able to support the family. But now, the Philippines is already modernized. Both men and women can work, even women can be a politician and great businesswomen. What men can do, women can do better.

This cruelty is felt in all sectors of life: financial, social, political, cultural, sexual, religious and even within the family itself. Having become conscious of their human rights and of the injustices perpetrated against them in all these sectors, there is need to team up with them and help them.

We should be aware that the liberation of women from these injustices is part and package of the liberation of all the poor and exploited.

wika natin ang daang matuwid

Every year, we celebrate our national language month in the month of august. This is to show our Filipino language is very important and our love for our country. but, are we really doing these?
Because of our passion in learning different foreign languages, we give less attention to our own language which is the Filipino language. Our language is? Filipino. Yes, this is our real language. The language that will lead us to success.  What country do we belong? We are in the? Philippines. Our language is? Filipino. But why is it that we often use  foreign language  in talking to our classmates, friends, teachers and relatives? Being a Filipino, we should be proud of what we have or what we use. This will give us the success that we are aiming for not only for ourselves but also for the entire country. We all know that English is our international language. But, it is not enough for us to forget and idolize this language. We often use this language as a basis on how intelligent a person is.
Filipino language is known in the world. With the help of our unity, we will reach the word called “success”  because of our own language.

my teacher, my hero

There are heroes and heroines, national and local. Some of them are born, others are made. Many are still living while many others have long been gone. What could be in a school without our teachers? There would be no students as well that in fact, students will not be able to go to school and learn what they are supposed to learn. When talking about our own teachers, ofcourse, everyone would share how thatnkful they are having a teacher.  But, are teachers really that great? Aren’t they just a bunch of people teaching the whole day an have nothing to do but to teach? The people who are always giving a lot of activities and projects, making our life hard?
Those memories when they came about to tell stories and jokes with us students. Their “sermons” to us during times when we were disobedient, or lazy to pass those requirements. Their patience and hard works really seem unfolded. Teachers are great. They teach us in all ways they could. Teachers are usually there to impart knowledge and give you an opportunity to move on with life and be successful in the future.
. They guide us through different challenges. Although they don’t fight or fly around looking for bad guys, teachers have very large influences on a child’s early developing stages of life: in their elementary days, high school days and in the last stage of schooling.
They act as light when we’re on darkness. They love us as if we came from their own womb. They are the second parents of future doctors, businessmen, lawyers, and maybe even senators and representatives. It is the job of a teacher to remain patient and to lend helping hands whenever it is needed. She taught me how to read, write, count, and how to be strong in every problems I face. She taught me on how to be socialized. I learned many lessons from her. She’s a person willing to help a lost child to make her a successful one. She was like my hero once and I know she’ll forever be one.
For me, the word teacher stands for the one who Teach us, Encourage us, Aspire us, Care for us, Help us, and Reminds us who we are and what we areTeacher, I need help.” “Teacher, I don’t understand our last lesson. Can you explain them?” These are lines that are basically embedded in the minds of all teachers of the world, and just as any great person would, they always stop what they are doing to help others in need. By taking the time out of their days to help us better get through the basics of life, teachers are not only teaching us education, but they are providing us with a sense of right and wrong.

modern day hero

Every child in the world, they always have their own heroes. It can be superheroes that they see in the television, basketball players, politicians, brother, sister, friend or their parents.

For me, my modern day hero is my mother. When she was laboring in the hospital, she felt a lot of pain. But, she never gave up just to bring me out of her womb and make me feel her love. She is waking up very early just to cook our breakfast and prepare all the things that we need. She does the household chores, she does the laundry. Do you imagine your superheroes in the television doing all the household chores like washing the dishes and doing the laundry? Fantasy heroes don't. But if they, what will happen to the clothes that they will wash? Maybe, it will be torn into pieces because of their power or hyper- energy. But our mother's hands are like given by angels because of its willingness to work. That is why their hands are rough.

It is very hard to be a mother. It is the most difficult job and the only job with no salary. The only thing that they consider is the love, respect, and care that they are receiving from their children. We should love, respect and care them the way they treat us, not only once or twice a month but, every second and forever.

SONA 2013

President Aquino delivered his fourth State Of The Nation Address (SONA) on July 22, 2013. It was Pnoy's longest SONA so far consuming one hour and fouty-five minutes but has been applauded less frequently compared to last year.
His SONA focused on the approval of the Sintax Reform Law an Responsible Parenthood Law (RH Law), Education syatem (K-12), Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), allocation of 6.2 billion pesos for flood control in Metro Manila and other concerns.
One of the concerns that he mentioned is about the Bureu of Costums (BOC). I salute Mr. Aquino for opening the eyes of the leaders of BOC. Given that this country has a lot of unrecognized ports, smmugling is really a tight fight. So I nthink, it's really the best thing for Mr. Ruffy Biazon to resign if maybe he's doing his job or not. At least if he will resign, there will be a little dignity that will be left.
We hope that the classroom shortage will be addressed by the Department of Education within the year and the improvement 0of rice sufficiency.
Many of the promises of the president are already addressed but still, there are some that is not enough. We Filipinos are still for more improvements. We hope tha every leader  of this country will do their best to make this country a progressive country.

Gutom at Malnutrisyon Sama-sama nating wakasan

Every year, the number of children who are malnourished are increasing. This is because of the parents who have no work. If the government will have to give many job-openings, we can lessen the number of malnourished children.

I agree to the project of the governmentwhich is the "feeding program". Thi can also help especially to the children who are not eating the right amount of healthy foods. Some families are just eating maybe not three times a day but some are twice, once or worst they do not eat at all.

We need to end these problems. We should think for our future generations. If now there are many families who are suffering from hunger, what more about our future children? The government should act about this problem.

letter to the president of the Philippines

June 25, 2013

Hon. Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III
President of the Philippines

I am deeply honored because I have given a chance to write a  letter to the  most powerful person in the Philippines. Sir, I am just one of the concerned students from Ilocos Sur National High School. I urge you Pres. Aquino to prove to the National Community that there is hope for significant improvement of the Philippine Economy and greater confidence for peace-building under your leadership.

I hope that you will focus more about the improvement of our beloved country. May I request you sir not to spend all your time in judging and talking about the past administrations.

I hope that there will be a remedy about the families sleeping on streets. I hope that there will come a time that you will find a better place for them to stay. We are also waiting for the time that the rising of the economy of the Philippines will be felt not only by the rich people or the businessmen but also the small people like us.

We believe in your ability to serve. You are chosen democratically because we know that you can make a big improvement to our country. We believe that this will help you achieve the goals to which your administration is committed, and be for the greater benefit of the people of the Philippines.
Thank You and more power. God Bless!

Respectfully yours,

Kristine Ponce
